Taking advantage of a rare fine day a small crew spent Thursday afternoon digging post holes and putting up two “Rocket Box Houses’ on the flats beside a major wetland on DCA’s Settlement Lands.

The assistance of Allan, who farms the adjacent property, was much appreciated. His loader carried the posts, with houses attached, as well as our tools along the muddy trail to unload them close to the selected area.

Jenny reported that the beaver family that manages the adjacent wetland had recently felled 40 trees on the west shore. We wondered if this was merely a winter food supply project or do they have a new major dam in mind?
