A Dun Skipper butterfly Euphyes vestris vestris was seen (and photographed) by Andrew Fyson on Tuesday on the Railway Grade Marsh Trail.

The Dun Skipper is classified as Threatened by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC). It has previously been sighted elsewhere on Denman Isl., but is rarely reported, perhaps because it is such an undistinguished creature. In fact there are only 209 sighting records in British Columbia from 1902 to 2011.
