Western Redcedar (Thuja plicata) is a common tree on Denman Island. It is often browsed by our Blacktail deer. In the Fall rutting season the stags also like to thrash young cedar saplings with their antlers.

Western Redcedar heavily browsed – open area of the Settlement Lands
Western Redcedar lightly browsed – wet area, Northwest corner of Central Park
Western Redcedar in my garden that has not been browsed
Here the heavily browsed base of the cedar is topped by a free-growing , unbrowsed leader. Yes this is all one tree! Adjacent to the Railway Grade Marsh trail.
