Wednesday (25 March) was a warm sunny day and I was out cleaning up a flower bed. A sharp buzz above alerted me to look up and I caught a glimpse of a bird sweeping through the site where our hummingbird feeder hangs all summer. I went inside immediately to mix up sugar syrup, fill the feeder and put it up.

I did not see the bird return that day but on the 26th he was back to feed, a male Rufus Hummingbird as I expected.

I was immediately prompted to clean and disinfect the (Violet green) swallow nest box, as it should not be long before that family shows up as well.
